I have been using DVD Shrink for a while without any problems. That is until last week. I've searched high and low and it seems that no one else has come across the following problem:

    I can open a dvd/files ok.

When I go to Backup either to a ISO or to my harddrive I get the following message:

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. The specified folder is invalid".

Get this alert on any dvd I try, even ones I have backed up successfully before using Shrink!

Im wondering whether my laptop has an automated update that has somehow disabled/corrupted Shrink?

I have uninstalled/reinstalled -still get the same problem.

Any assistance would be greately appreciated.

DVDShrink is discontinued and no longer being updated...it has been this way for quite some time.
Rip the DVD with DVDFabDecrypter then load that into DVDShrink.
You are simply the victim of newer copy protections that came out after DVDShrink closed up shop.

Exactly as stated above. Since all the newer films specially from Sony Studios and some others have come out, it's been requred procedure to use ANYDVD or some other tool to defeat these new protection schemes. (always the latest one) in tandem with DVDSrhink in order to be able to copy any of these movies. You can also use what the previous poster suggested. It will work just as well.

BUT,,,, you also state that you can't even copy your now unprotected copies?? Could be a coincidence that you media is no good or that there is actually somthing really wrong with your DVDShrink software and or laptop. Try DVDFabDecrypter and see if that fixes your problem.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

You've been doing this for a while ... check your drive's freespace ... you might need to clean out thing's that should have gone a long time ago and may simply be out of room to store the file's .

Scandisk the hard drive , and defrag it , while your at it .

    =======

    Some info :

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=58318 ... download this package .

Grab the last version of dvddecrypter and dvdshrink and imgburn .

And grab a copy of this guide : http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56831

    ------------

If it's doing it to all dvd's ... commercial released and copies ... then it is suggested that the problem has more to do with the dvd drive than anything else ... they do wear out eventually ... and laptop's are worse .

Considering that the laptop may have never , ever , been serviced , I would suggest it be powered down , and a partial disassembly on the laptop be performed to gain access to the cable connecting the drive to the mainboard ... and disconnect it ... and reconnect .

With dell's ... it's rip em out , and slap em back in .

    Then test again .

I would seriously invest in an external dvd unit for the laptop , and use the laptop's drive for more serious work ... cause there not as cheap to replace as normal pc drive's ...

    It's what I have done .

    ----------------

Anyone who gose near ANYDVD ... need's dropping on their head ... preferably at birth ...
It is well known to interfere with specific process's

    Thankyou all for your replys.

Well I have tried a few things and still no luck.

    1. Tried cleaning up my hard-drive and defrag. Same prob in Shrink.
    2. Tried using DVDFabPlatinum (Trial version) and DVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0. When I then try to use Shrink - same prob.

Having looked at most of the replys, they suggest that I use a tool to rip the dvd first and then use Shrink to fit it on to a dvd-5. This is a bummer, having used Shrink for so long without having to use any other tools apart from the odd occasion where I've had to use DVDFabDecrypter29 first, then Shrink.

Looks as if Im going to have to use some other combination of tools.

I even tried using DVDFabPlatinum to rip just the main movie to an ISO. This keeps failing too!

RipIt4Me has a one click mode that will rip the disc to your HDD, clean it up, and load it into Shrink. How much easier do you need it to be ?

Hi, Just Tried That. I still get the same error message when trying to 'Build' in Shrink.

I dont have any problems ripping any dvd, using any of the tools mentioned above. Just cant seem to use Shrink anymore to create an ISO.

Given that Shrink has deserted me, which tool does anyone recommend to shrink and create an ISO?

Why do you need an ISO ?

Imgburn 2 will burn a DVD Video folder directly. It is the burning engine from DVD Decrypter, made standalone and much better.

Also, that error message looks like an issue with the output folder.

When does it come up ?
Do you have enough disc space ?
Are you running Fat32 or NTFS ?

most recent version of shrink (although this is a relative term, as the program is no longer being delevoped) will even burn direct to disc for you, you dont even need to go to the ISO stage

Shrink writes a small file to a temp folder hidden in your Documents and Settings folder of analysis results each time you decrypt a DVD. Normally that would just expand as you add DVDs. That is where you might have a problem. I would try deleting the contents.

Go to 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data' You will need to click ''Show hidden files and folders' in 'Folder options>View' for that folder to be visible. You can delete them all as they aren't needed unless you decrypt the same video again. Then they will speed up the decryption.

If you can't find it, make your hidden folders visible and do a search for 'DVD Shrink' and check hidden folders.

    In response to redwudz:
Done exactly as you stated, still get the same error message in Shrink.

    In response to guns1inger:
Always created an ISO, havn't tried buring a folder directly. Something I will try.
The error message comes up when I click ok after clicking on the 'build' icon. Whether I try to build it to an ISO or the HD folder, I get the same message. I do have enough disk space and use NTFS.
