I want to make a quick tutorial type video for someone wherein I record what's going on on my computer screen. I'm sure you've seen videos like that before. Anyways, I downloaded CamStudio, which is free open source but can't seem to get it to look right (the resulting video is hard to see what's going on) Can anyone help me?

  2. I've just started looking into the same thing.

I tried My Screen Recorder Pro - but the frame rate was so slow and I need to capture at a high rate.

Then I came across Screen Virtuoso - much better and cheaper!!!

Comes in Standard and Pro (Pro is $39)

I'll probably end up buying it.

How do you get around the problem of having everything be big and clearn on the screen when you play it back?

  4. CamStudio http://www.camstudio.org/ - There is a 4G file size limit with the CamCodec. You can capture larger but playback won't work and ffdshow's decode for CamCodec is broken. It gives the wrong color sometimes. There is an option to exclude the mouse pointer during capture.

VH Screen Capture Driver http://www.hmelyoff.com/index.php?section=8 - Use this with VirtualDub.

I'm trying to use the VH Screen Capture Driver with VirtualDub but I'm not doing such a hot job... What should the settings be on?

Try ZDSoft Screen Recorder. Hope it works for you. This is the last freeware version so don't update it because it will update into shareware version. It is the best screen capture software for free that I have come across. I uploaded up myself because I am not sure if the versions found on the internet are the freeware ones. If you need help using it just reply.

Maybe you forgot to adjust your screen resolution down to something a little more compatible like 800x600 , 16bit colour ... it help's .

You will loose some quality when it's down converted to dvd .
Or if screen size remain's the same , recompress to xvid , and place xvid codec and clip on same disc for other people .

On my 1.8GHz Pentium M laptop, it *easily* captured 1024 x 768 at 15 frames per second, while another video processing app was running.

I resized each frame to 50% and chose a palette-based Flash movie for output.

You can see the results at: http://www.enosoft.net/TestWink.htm (the embedded movie is about 2.2MB)
