Ive had my laptop for 4-5 years and only yesterday it asked me to register my copy of windows.

My laptop restarted randomly as I was browsing the net and when it was booting back up a message came up saying something like if I want to carry on using windows I had to register it, I clicked next and it asked me to click next to dial up my modem to register it but it couldnt connect so I clicked register later on then everything loaded up normally.

Is this normal and do I HAVE TO register it?

  4. Probably.

The Vista Transformation Pack makes very major changes to the OS (including installing illegal copies of Microsoft's stuff).

  6. I don't know. The changes run so deep.

A complete reformat and reinstall would.

  8. You should to be able to restore using those. (It will be like doing a fresh install most likely)

Good idea to do a backup of your personal data files (favorites, emails, My Docs/Pix/Tunz/Flix, etc) and maybe registry settings --> DVD/CD FIRST!
