Hello everyone, please excuse my noobness in this area...

OK here goes... A friend of mine created a DVD of our race season I believe using Pinnacle(?).

The DVD was very well done with music and a menu. What I would like to be able to do (I have the authors permission) is edit the video to remove some sections and remvoe the music that he added as its licensed to him and my disctrict officals really don't want it on the revised DVD for its new purpose.

I have Sony Vegas 7.0 (but have never used it) and can install Ulead DVD factory. I don't have access to Pinnacle.

I believe that the editing is really three parts.. 1. the actual video 2. the menu changes and 3. audio editing.

If anyone has expereince in this area and can lend some advise on how to proceed and what application(s) the suggest I would greatly appreciate it.

Our goal is to distribute the DVD free to local dealerships etc to spark interest in our district races.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Is the music in the video and you just want to remove the music and not other audio or?
Do you want to keep the original menus and just change a few settings?

Easiest would probably be to use mpeg video wizard dvd and to import the dvd and make the changes...but you would have to make a new menu.

Thanks for the info! I have since tried out Edit Studio 5 to just edit parts of the vide out and to turn off the seperate audio. I will try your suggestion, question .. can you use the app you suggested to create menu's a s well ?

    Thanks!

You'll get much better results if you can get the original camcorder tapes from the author and start over with Vegas 7.

    3: Menu editing ? ... same'o

    For now , some tool's :

    Pgcedit

    Supporting kit :

The gimp (for menu creation ... if you dont have a "paint" program ... not ms paint)
    Audacity
Dvdslideshowgui (not required , but hand for transitional effect's)

Is the music dubbed over a background track such as the original audio? If that's the case you will not be able to seperate them unless they are on different tracks which is unlikely.

Which version of Ulead's DVD MovieFactory do you have?

Do you want to REPLACE the original audio with some new audio material?
Are the SPLICE points at fade to/from black (or are straight CUTS acceptable) ?
    Are NEW menus acceptable?

If YES to above, then MovieFactory 4DC or 5Plus can do what you want:

    1) Use the Import from DVD option to bring in the mpeg from the original DVD
    2) use the MULTI-TRIM function to identify the sections you want to keep
    3) use ENHANCE-VIDEO to MUTE the original audio, and add your new audio track
    4) add your menus and burn DVD (to hard drive first to test it, then you can burn to disc afterwards)

    Regards,
    George
