  1. Hi all

I have a very important Wave file that I cannot get to play. I have 7 other wave files all recorded with the same recording device and they all play fine. However, this one file won't play at all.

I have tried lots of players and even Audacity but this won't even load up the file. Does anyone know what I can do here?

Or does anyone know if there is somewhere I can send the file for it to examined? The file is 25mb!

I would really appreciate some help here as the file is from my a counseling session that I attended.

    Thanks

Here is the link to the file if anyone can do something with this it would be a fantastic.

The first 5 or 10 minutes might just be traffic noise after that it should be talking.

    Cheers

I can open it in Vegas, GSpot, a few others. It says it's:

Mono (1ch), 16kHz samplerate, 4bit IMA/DVI ADPCM, "SigmaTel" in user data fields. This gives a data bitrate of 64kbps.

What I see in the file is SILENCE.

If these apps are misreading the codec, maybe there's something still there. If they aren't misreading...I hope you have a backup somewhere.

Oh, also I see it as 12.1MB size file. Maybe something happened at the Share site, or during download...

I have had success.... Read on.

The total running time is 56:19.

The codec appears to be IMA ADPCM which is included in ffdshow audio decoder. I enabled it but could still not get the file to play or show anything but 0.0 time and 0 bits. Gspot could partially render the file but still not play it.

I am able to convert the file to AC3 using ffmpegGUI and it then plays correctly. That is the only program I have that could do that.

Download ffmpegGUI and convert your file to ac3.

Once in ac3 format many applications can then convert it to whatever you want.

If you use VirtualDubMOD to convert from ac3 to something else then download and install AC3 ACM Decompressor. This is required for VirtualDubMOD to handle the ac3 file.

    Good luck.

Heres a short clip from the file in mp3 format. clip.mp3
    The volume is low.....

Well done, gents. VLC was able to transcode it to mp3, then threw some limiting on the recording to bring out the low volume parts. Not great sounding, but discernable at least. Thank Cornucopia and the Skorpion King- they did all of the hard work. Here's the whole thing, converted to mono 80kbs mp3 22050hz. There's feedback on your source at around 2700hz which you can hear if you pull back on the lower frequencies.

    35MB Download
