Hello everybody:
I had to copy several folders to CD RW. Normally I would first create the folders and then copy the contents, but this time I decided to take a shortcut by copying entire folders. It was a brand new CDRW, which I formatted earlier.
I could see the progress bar, the process was in motion, but after observing one file being copied too long, I cancelled the operation.
After that I tried to do it step-by-step, to create the folders and only then to copy the contents. The Explorer showed one folder out of five. I tried to create additional ones, but the computer froze and I had to reboot it.
After that I put another CD RW into that drive, but it showed the volume of the previous CD RW and that single folder, which it created earlier.
I tried a few other CD RW, it was the same story.
So I turned the computer off.
Next day I tried again, and again it would show me the volume of that disc on which I cancelled the operation previously, even if I put a CD RW with twenty different folders into that drive.
I then put a CD ROM into it and it showed the contents OK with a correct volume title.
It does allow me to create new folders and copy stuff into them, but absolutely refuses to show the pre-existing folders.
It is Windows 98. When I put those CD RWs into my XP, it shows everything OK.
Can anybody suggest how to "clear" that computer? I really like it, it is very quiet and is perfectly adequate for casual work.

Thx: walter
