    Are they stereo cables ?
    Are they good cables ?

You can fix the caps you have by copying the right channel over the missing left, effectively giving you joint stereo, or 2.0 mono. But you need to check your cables and connections to work out why you are not recording down both channels.

Audio from device via rca (left / right channel) to rca : stereo headphone conversion cable .
Could also be an issue with capture device ... need to check that after cable has been confirmed .

    Audio quick fix :

Depending on what is required output ... vdub for avi , vmod for mpeg .

Either way , demux audio as wav .

Open vdub , load any avi , under audio , set to full processing , then choose wav ... locate that audio stream just created .
Go to audio , conversion .

    44.1khz for mpeg ... 48khz for mpeg2 .
    16bit , stereo .

    Save as wav .

Convert this new wav as required .
