I have a home movie that originally started as an 8mm, so there's no sound. I would like to put the whole thing on a DVD, and i am wondering: can i have the DVD always play the music, independent of the videos?

I would like to put the DVD in, and have the music start playing when the menu is displayed. No matter what option is selected, i would like the music to just continue playing. I am thinking of just making a 30 song loop that would play throughout. Is that at all possible?

Can't do it. Music cannot be continuous across menus or titles in the DVD spec.

Putting music along side the video and menus is easy, and any good authoring tool will let you do it. If you have a good editor, you can time your music to match the video etc.

But the DVD spec does not allow music or audio to play across menu or title changes, with a single exception. You can create multi-cell menus that allow you to start with a video clip that seamlessly plays into a menu cell, however as soon as the menu loops, ot a choice is made, the audio breaks and starts again at the next menu or title.

    That's where all the fun is . . .

If you want to look at multi-cell menus, I suggest you download the demo version of DVD Lab Pro 2, and spend some time in the Mediachance forums.

that seems to be a lot more complicated then what i want, but i'll check it out
what i might have to do, is just import all my clips into premiere, add the soundtrack, and recut them.
