I am moving in to a new home soon and would really like to use my PC for playing movies, vid editing and some games on my TV's. I can output to them via the DVI and audio out connections but there are 2 nice tvs I would like to use them on and neither are living next to the PC.

So I would like to have the ability to hook my PC up to other equipment via some sort of wireless set up.

I am guessing I will need a sender and reciever of some sort but dont quite know what im looking for. I have heard of network dvd players but dont know how they work - is that ideal for what I need?

I would like to output 5.1 digital sound so I can hear games and some audio/video productions on my home theatre system and when we entertain I would like to be able to select the ample music I have on my PC and play it throughout the house.
I am yet to buy a sound card (inbuilt to motherboard) so also is there a certain one that I need for wireless transmission??

Could anyone give me some help on setting up a system so I can base my PC in the office but unleash it to the rest of my house??

Go to ebay , and do a search on

wireless av , will return many item's .

This unit is available for a short period only to show the user the one I bought , and may nolonger exist after 8 day's :

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Wireless-Audio-Video-AV-Sender-Transmitter-Receiver_W0QQitemZ27...QQcmdZViewItem

But for anything dealing with audio in the correct manner , 2 channel vs 6 channel output ... the price gose through the roof .

Personally , when it come's down to home theater setup's connected through an entire building ... it's slip on the overall's , hat , very sturdy glove's , glass's , and drag the appropriate cable's through the wall's , ceiling and floor space ... finishing off with quality wall mount bracket's that device's connect too ... a hassle .

Considering these wireless av device's can pack it in at anytime and for any reason , and you need to go get another ... I'd rather the cable way ... it's a sight cheaper in the long run .

I was up in the roof the other day for another person wanting to do this same thing ... I finished up being covered from head to toe in cobweb's ... spider's I can handle ... it's those bloody possum's you have to fight with .

lol....yeah possums can be a bitch!

The problem is though for my personal situation running cables all over the place is not practicle, with brick and the distance the cables would have to run.

5.1 sound is important to me so the standard av senders in your link, whilst attractively priced, cant meet my needs.

When you say, the price goes through the roof, what are we talking here?

  4. Dlink and others make wireless media players.

    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=318

You might consider an external drive with built in media player.

The problem with this type of device is the limited number of file types they can play.

Dlink products suck ... if you do buy one and it dose not match up to advertised standards take the junk back to who you bought it from and DEMAND a full refund without question ... Item's sold under false pretenses is illegal .

Noting the unit from http://www.zensonic.com/see.php ... if it pack's it in , your completely stuffed , and their not entirely cheap either to replace .

Wireless networking still has yet to catch up with the "want's" of the end user's ... you almost need 2 different unit's in order to send video , and 5.1 audio properly.

The one I mentioned is not to bad , but audio is limited ... no digital ... for 5.1 audio ... audio output only ... http://www.thinkgeek.com/clearance/8be1/

Remember , any wall / floor , ceiling between the receiver and sender that has electrical cable's and such will affect the quality of the signal .

802.11g wireless equipment also has limitation's on maximum expected bandwidth ... depending on the setup ... and distance to cover which user's have discovered is not what they expected ... their lucky if the get anywhere near half of the bandwidth .

This again , is why I use cable ...

    Less longterm problem's ...
    No restriction's ...
No messing with firewall issue's ...
For most thing's ... pc is not required ...

No security issue's with neighbor's knocking your crap off , because you didnt secure your wireless network ...
What ... you want to give it away for free ... go right a head ... it may not belong before the black van turn's up on your doorstep ... SECURE it or ELSE .

Do it the first time correctly , and you never need to look back .

Well one option is a tivo series 2 model - you can stream dvd standard mpeg files and mp3 files to your tv over wireless or lan connection to the tivo from the pc. You can also do pictures and some internet radio.

It works very well but is limited to mpeg2 dvd level video only and mp3 only so variety is not an option and is only available on the series 2 model.

But if you want 5.1 and flexibility in formats look for the wireless video systems mentioned in this post. Expect to pay north of a 150.00 new.

With these wireless units - in general - you have to be concerned about interference from other wireless devices like router and telephone. Also microwave and electrical wiring may come into play.

Best to check reviews and/or make dead certain you can return for complete refund if you have issues.

5.8 ghz vs. 2.4 ghz is still no guarantee that reception will be totally clear.

    Good luck
