    I think vr can be handled using tmpgenc .

    Check your manual for the camera for recording mode's ... if it dose support more than 1 mode ... you would be using the wrong one when recording (camera default) , which will cause problem's when trying too deal with it on your pc later .

    Check if "video" mode is available in the manual .

    Did you finalize the disk?

    This review says it's mp2 vbr.

    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-DC100-Camcorder-Review.htm

    "No matter which group you find yourself in, we wish to impart this one little nugget of information: the DC100 is not worth it. At only $20 more (street price), you can pick up the DC10, which has a larger imager, flash media for stills, and larger still sizes. The DC100 was obsolete before it ever hit the shelves." the reviewer says. Ouch

    TMPGEnc should be able to recode that to the local tv standard (NTSC or PAL) if it won't play.

    You got the 'entry level" dvr. It usually pays to stay away from there.

    If it is a -RW then it must be finalized to be read in your PC. It can be erased or reformated for reuse.

    Actually , these camera's and home dvd recorder's must finalize the disk beforehand ... in order for the pc to recognize them .

    To reuse ... put the disk back in the unit that created the original content , and select "un-finalize"

    Not forgetting newbies ... the files must be transfered to the pc for editing ... not edited by pc , while on disk .

    And the possibility of the pc drive not supporting the media type used ... if it dosent support it , it wont read it .

    ============

    On a side note : All device's become obsolete soon after leaving the manufacturer's door ... it pays to do your research before buying new equipment .

    VR mode is just another name for UDF format discs. Install a program that works with UDF discs such as Nero InCD or other packet writing software. VR mode usually needs to be finalized for most drives to be able to read, however some can read it unfinalized. You can always unfinalize a RW disc and write more to it later.
