I ripped a DVD with SmartRipper and am using Womble MPEG Video Wizard to do some major editing. I've got lots of cuts, added dissolves, extra audio tracks, did audio editing, etc.

When I make a DVD using the Womble DVD maker, as expected it only re-encodes the sections of video where I've added effects (so only a few bits).

Trouble is, when I playback on my DVD player (Oppo), I get very studdery motion. This looks like incorrect 3:2 pulldown (or lack of), but when the next scene with an edit comes up, the playback gets smooth. It keeps jumping back and forth from smooth to choppy playback from scene to scene.

Also, if I'm watching a scene with choppy playblack I hit pause and then play again, the playback becomes smooth! Every time.

What's doing on?? How can I fix it? I've spent 50 hours editing, I sure don't want to have to start over...

What does dgindex say about the dvd source? open the main vobset and use the preview and it will say if it's progressive, interlaced or progressive/interlaced.

    Hi Baldric, thanks for replying...

    DGindex reports:

    720x480
    29.97
    progressive
    video type: film

Funny, I thought just about every major movie was at 23.97 on DVD??

I also checked the "deleted scenes" i've been editing back into the movie, and it reports those as being interlaced... plus, the field order is "top" on the deleted scenes, but "bottom" on the main VOBs.

However, I have my stuttering video problem long before the "deleted scenes" files appear on the timeline.

In any case, that is the info... any ideas?
