  1. Ok this is what ive learned so far.

Xbox can read most CD-RW's. It can read a Few CD-R's

Sence it can read Dvd's I figured it had the MPEG-2 drivers in there somewhere. With that in mind I did the following.

I used TMGENC to encode a DVD movie file roughly 20 seconds long.

I then burned the file to a CD-RW(Memorex 74min) using Ulead DVD Movie Factory.

I Put the disk into the xbox and the playback was all Jumpy and there were green blocks everywhere. I guess alittle success is better then no success right?

Sence it is all Jumpy I figured the birate is to high. The Bitrate for a DVD compliant movie is maxed at 9000 I believe. Correct me if im wrong.

Is there anyway to lower the bitrate and still be a DVD compliant video? I tried lowering the bitrate but then Ulead wouldnt except the file saying something like the file wasnt compliant.

Is there a programe out there tha maybe warns u that the file isnt compliant but still lets you burn it? Sorta like Easy Cd creator?(Easy cd creator doesnt let you burn dvd files right?)

    Thx for any reply's

  2. I see no option to burn a dvd file in nero. All I see are the VCd and SVCD options.

This is true for the latest Nero Under "File" select preferences. On the expert tab there is a checkbox for "Show all compilation types..." This activates a dropbox in the "New Compilation" window where you can choose DVD

I suspect that this may not be the problem...

The Xbox probably has the same hardware limitation that most standalone DVD players have: They can read CD-R, they can read DVD, they can read VCD or SVCD material off a CD-R, and DVD material off a DVD disk, but they don't comprehend DVD material off a CD-R (which is miniDVD format).

As far as bitrates for DVD, I don't believe it's much of an issue, as much as the video size, and format. Pretty much anything goes for DVD bitrate, and the allowable specs are:

    MPEG-2, 525/60 (NTSC): 720x480, 704x480, 352x480
    MPEG-2, 625/50 (PAL): 720x576, 704x576, 352x576
    MPEG-1, 525/60 (NTSC): 352x240
    MPEG-1, 625/50 (PAL): 352x288

I don't believe that the Playstation 2 plays miniDVD either, so probably the same goes for the Xbox.
