I have just loaded Powerdvd on a German-made [Gericom Hydrospeed] laptop and it automatically loaded in German language so I can't understand all the prompts but the only thing out of the ordinary I think is that a prompt came up which showed "Region USA and Canada" which was preselected from the list so I clicked OK, the DVD plays, I can hear the audio but nothing shows on the screen except for the regular Powerdvd screen, any ideas what's going on here please?

It appears PowerDVD just changed the region setting from Region 2 to Region 1.
There are language kits available for several versions of PowerDVD here:

I've never tried them....but I assume this will make English available...I could be wrong though.

I'm not sure why you don't see any picture.....can you explain a bit more about the DVD you are trying to play?

Thanks but I don't see this as a language issue, I can hear the audio clearly only no pic. I tried 2 types of DVD's, store bought and home made, same result.

If you have any mpeg files on your hard drive you can try to see if it plays video with those.
Click the little drive icon and then click mediendatei öffnen then open the file....IF you have one to play.
I only suggested the language pack so you can fully understand the options(Konfiguration) menu.

Also....if this is the first time you've played a DVD in this laptop with PowerDVD...maybe it needs to to assign a region to the drive and you haven't done so yet?

Look under Konfiguration then Information....Konfiguration looks like a little hammer over a capital "T".
That should tell you whether you have assigned a region or not.

Also do yourself a favor and look into investing in AnyDVD. It is a three week trial.

    Also download DVDDecrypter.
After you install it go to Tools/Drive/Region Code....that will give you info AND give you an easier place to set/change your region code. Don't go changing too much....you only have 4 changes then it will lock.

I believe ImgBurn will have the same exact setup as DVDDecrypter.

Tried to view the dvd using WMP but strange thing, I can see the video files but when I select it I get an error message stating that WMP cannot locate the file. Another strange thing is that I am seeing 2 partitions in Computer Management and the D drive shows a separate partition, could this have anything to do with this problem?

Latest version of Powerdvd did not work so I tried the klite with MPC, works now but the video is slanted, any fixes? Also, uninstalled powerdvd and now it doesn't work, does this mean that that I will need klite, mpc and powerdvd to make this work? If so, then this means that Powerdvd has some essential element? Tired now and will reinstall Powerdvd tomorow to test.

If you ask me it now sounds like a video card problem.....and that "ain't good" on a laptop.

I reinstalled powerdvd and now MPC shows the DVD again but choppy and it still shows slanted so this is weird, well I can expect the choppiness because this system only has 256ram but the killer is that without powerdvd MPC won't show the dvd and powerdvd won't show the dvd on it's own.

I'm not sure exactly what codecs are needed but you might want to look into a codec problem?
