Can I convert AVI to DVD and burn a film that will play on a TV-DVD player without a menu?

  2. Yes. You still need to have the correct VOB and IFO structure, according to spec, but menus are optional.

Thanks! I wanted to know that becaude I converted an AVI file to DVD using "AVI DivX MPEG to DVD converter & burner pro". Everythin went OK, but the film on the disc doesn't run on my computer with any player and I dont know if it will play on the DVD player that has a friend of mine Thanks again for your help!

  4. If you don't use menus, then what should happen is, you put the disc in the DVD player, it'll spin up, and automatically start playing. That should happen the same for your computer DVD drive, you should just be able to insert the disc and open your DVD player and it'll instantly start playing ... but it could be a software bug, I've had that happen a few times.

Anyway, if you have any problems playing this back on a stand-alone DVD player, let us know and we'll help figure it out!

I tried to burn another DVD-R and this time everything was again OK. The program mounted the file, I set the *.sub file in the rogram, I set the background image for the menu it was 720 x 480(the first time it was 544 x 364)the program created the menu, it started to convert, then it created the *.VOB files and it burned the DVD. I can see that there is writing to the disc, but this time when I try to run it, Windows tels me that the disc is empty and there aren't any files on it. Is this normal in some way?

Sounds like dodgy software. If it gives you the option, write the DVD to your HDD first, and test it from there. This will tell you if it has been encoded and authored correctly. If it works, use imgburn 2 to burn the disc.

I tried to test it, but my Windows Media Player(I usually run my other DVD discs with it) just reports that it has encountered a problem and needs to close, so it doesn't run. But my converter isn't very legal and I had some bugs with it. In Bulgaria, if you don't make profit out of it, you can download and use almost everything. That's the law. And I dont have money for original converter software It isn't very important(My friend can just get the original film from a video store, they cost here les than 50cent) I was just cureous how can I make a DVD and maybe one of those 2 DVD might run. Thanks for all your help! I appreciate it.

If I have it right what you are trying to do is make a copy of a retail dvd(you say it's legal where you live). So if that is the case, To create a dvd from a retail dvd without menu, use dvdfab decrypter (free) and dvdshrink(free)? Rip the dvd with dvdfab, then run the files through dvdshrink in re-author mode. The final product will be a file that is then dvd complian, and can be burned to dvd-r.

I'm lost where the AVI file comes in, if your friend can get an origianl dvd (.VOB files) for you to copy. if none of this is any help, I apologize, I misunderstood your problem.
