    Hi,
I am trying to use Windows Media 11 to play DiVX videos, and basically all videos, but for some reason all the videos show up in black and white. All the codecs are up to date, my video card drivers are the latest, a BIOS flash did not help either. After downloading VLC player, the files play in perfect color but in WM11, they still are in black and white. Here comes the interesting part. One video file required me to download a license in WM11, and when I accepted and downloaded the license the filed played in perfect color. Went to try another file and no luck. What is the problem?

Using ffdshow?? Check the config settings under Decoder Options - there's a grayscale only mode that might be on. And since there's no such things as DRM'd AVI files (AFAIK) it was probably a WMV file, so ffdshow wasn't involved in that case.

You could run a few of the problem files through GSpot for clues, installed codecs etc.

Did things work correctly before you installed WMP11?

One video file required me to download a license in WM11, and when I accepted and downloaded the license the filed played in perfect color.
    Sounds like a DRM issue.

There isn't a DRM issue, because I figured out that .wmv play fine and the DRM protected file was .wmv. However upon using GSPOT, it says my DiVX codecs are installed properly. XviD 1.2 SMP MPG4. I never used anything before WMP11. Perhaps re installing WMP11 will help?

Fact of the matter is all files play perfect on VLC and not in WMP11 even though I have all codecs installed. Any other ideas?

UPDATE: Rolling back to WMP10 does not fix the issue.
