Hi im running winXP and viewing my avi's in media player. I am able to view most of my avi's but some dont seem to work. The player thinks they are audio and not video files. I have downloaded the newest versions from divx.com and i have realplayer installed. I know the files are good since i can watch them at work on my pc. My pc at work has the same files installed by me.
Is there a video card driver i might be missing? I am running a GeforeII Ultra at home and some cheap card at work.
I know its just a driver issue but what other drivers do i need other then the http://www.divx.com ones?
Thank you for your time![]()

www.divx.com is NOT divx. it is some supposed legal bastardization of divx that basically took a good thing and made it crap.
99% of what you download from the net is DivX 3.11 Alpha and NOT DivX4.whatever. go to www.divx-digest.com and get the divx 3.11 alpha codec. DivX 4.xx can not decode ANY divx encoded audio and has a hard time with a great many divx encoded video files.
i know it sounds rediculous that the DivX codec does not decode DivX content but that the wisdom of the guys at project mayo where the DivX 4 anti-codec is being developed. the only thing worse than the DivX 4 codec is trying to play DivX on a windows XP system. you see M$ built in many features to improve compatibility for their own file formats like WMA and WMV and in the process they created tons of DivX bugs (intentional or unintentional is yet to be proved) and as a result millions of users have daily problems playing DivX files.
i am sorry to say your operating system is very anti DivX and as a result some files play screwed up (upside down, no audio, no video, skewed video). the activation scheme of windows XP was a dead giveaway that M$ plans to whatever they can to defeate "pirate" codecs that they don't profit from. getting the DivX 3.11 alpha codec will help in many cases but not all so good luck.peace out,
