Hi i have mkv toolnix and mkv merge both work great![]()
I input my .mkv file (which had a selectable english subs) and demux it into 3 separate file the video, audio and subs(which is a .ASS text file)
I then remove the original file i demuxed and load all 3 separate file back into mkv toolnix/merge, and start the muxing process to merge them, file comes out great but the subs are still only selectable from the video players menu, not hardcoded onto the video file itself, my first question is what am i doing wrong?, does mkv merge hardcode subs?
And second if it does how? and if it dosent how do i go about it any help will be SOOOOO welcome , Triple thanx in advance![]()

I tend to steer clear of mkv files, however looking at the toolkit you are using, it appears to be basically a muxing engine to combine all the streams into an mkv container. In order to get hardsubs you would have to re-encode the video with the subs, which this tool does not appear to do. Look for posts involving vobsub and virtualdub for instructions on how to get your subs encoded into the video itself, then use this video for your new mkv file.
