This has been an ongoing problem for me. I've completed my sequence in Final Cut Pro 5. I export it using the .DV option. My goal is to encode the .DV file into XVID using ffmpegx. But every time I try, I get an annoying "encrypted VOB file." Hello, its a DV file!
Geez, all I want is a stand alone app that can take a .dv file and convert it into an xvid. I've tried d-volution but that thing doesn't work nor has it been updated.
Otherwise, can anyone PLEASE recommend a work flow to go from Final Cut Pro to an XVID.avi that can be played on mac AND pc? I KNOW it can be done.
Thanks.

If your not set on using DV then go for .MOV or .AVI but use the DV/DVCPRO codec when exporting from FC. Then drag that into FFMPEG to any format.
