I've been watching a movie called Time Machine from 2002ish and it's been making me wonder. I've been thinking about where I would want to go if I had the chance. At the moment I still haven't a clue but I'm sure some of you will have an idea without much thought
so if you could choose one moment in time where would you go and why. Also what consequences do you think might happen if you changed something from the past?

Ah - to be able and go back to the point in time just before I proposed to my first wife... With a 2x4...
As for consequence - my son (from 2nd marriage) would no longer exist...
So scratch that... Ahhhh - to be able to go back in time to each point in time where I said "I won't cu..." to my ex and lie instead of telling the truth... -
The last time I tried to travel to the past, a physicist told me this was impossible.
Some philosophy copy and paste:
Presentism holds that neither the future nor the past exist; that the matter of the universe only exists in the present moment, that time is merely a concept which people use to describe what is going on around them. This could be interpreted to mean that there is nowhere for a time traveller to go, thus rendering the whole topic of time travel null and void. However, some presentists argue that although past and future objects do not exist, there can still be definite truths about past and future events, and that it is possible that a future truth about the time traveler deciding to return to the present date could explain the time traveler's actual presence in the present. In any case, the relativity of simultaneity in modern physics is generally understood to cast serious doubt on presentism and to favor the view known as four dimensionalism (closely related to the idea of block time) in which past, present and future events all coexist in a single spacetime. No tengo miedo a la muerte. I'm thinking if we ever did figure out how to travel through time, we would have already known about it by all those punks from the future coming back and messing with our stuff.

Do I get to come back to the present?

@lordsmurf: You don't...
Aren't we all travelling into the future?? Just at 1x speed... -
I would start by seeing how things would change if Kennedy weren't killed.
Then I would go back even further to see how different things would be if Lincoln hadn't been killed -- Kennedy may never even get to be president in that timeline......
Then I would go back even further and stop the Roman empire from falling -- this one would have huge impacts. Christian and Islamic religions probably wouldn't exist 2000 years later, the western hemisphere might have been 'discovered' sooner (or later) than it was...

I think it's impossible to time travel if you want to actually physically 'feel' things, so my thought of going back to save Marilyn Monroe is outta the question
I suppose if you could travel 4.5 billion light years away from earth in a blink of an eye and then use the best telescope to look back and zoom right in like Google maps you'd see something different
thinking about it, isn't that how we see the earlier parts of the Universe anyway? It's amazing when you see the effect when a camera zooms out from the earth and keeps on going past our solar system, galaxy and beyond. It's mind boggling! -
hmm, another thought!
do we actually see the 'true' timeline in a physical sense?
what I mean is that when something happens, it's already happened by the time the light gets to my eye (also add the time it takes to process that image). A simple example of this is that if the sun exploded we wouldn't see it for another 8 minutes or so (unless it exploded faster than the speed of light and then we'd feel it before we see it), therefore it's actually a past event we see and not the present
so basically aren't we are all living in the past? :P
p.s. how would it feel/look if something traveled faster than light and it hit you? My guess is you simply wouldn't feel/see anything -

If you were placed in some sort of suspended animation and able to fully recover then, in effect, wouldn't this be time travel?
As far as you are concerned you blinked and you are in the future. -
I'd go back to the very point in time where mans ancestors were able to understand and show them fire, the wheel and the lever... :P That ought to throw a monkey wrench in things.

Maybe go back and check out my wife when she was 19 and a nympho instead of the cold B...., err where was I? Oh yeah, Checking out the past in person would be pretty cool just to see how they learned and applied the technology of the day. I would try not to be like some Peace Corps worker and teach them the modern ways but rather enjoy the learning for myself. (I think that I would need an interpeter though)
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I might also go back to certain key points in my own life and give my younger self some 'advice'.

I don't think that I would tinker with my own past, I mean it wasn't the greatest or worse life or anything, but it is what it is. Now being able to go back to witness certian historic events would be one cool vacation.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

And finally, I'd write a book foretelling future events (wars, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.) After a few years of accurate "predictions" some people might take me seriously and, as a result, be alive today. -
For all the Dwarfers.....
Go back last week and get the ironing done!
On a personal level, go back to 97 and tell my younger git of a self not to finish with Jacqui.
For a laugh, go back a few thousand years and show a caveman a blue ray disc and tell him, THIS IS NOT THE FUTURE -
Back to biblical times with my Nikon, take decent photos of Christ, or other historical events. Probably a useless exercise though if I can't come back with them. Then again I might be crucified or burned at the stake for being a witch or something.

Planet of the Apes 1 and 2, maybe, but I'd stop after that.
In fact, I would go back to the start of motion pictures and have copyright law changed to out law the making of inferior remakes, re-imaginings and shot-for-shot copies. It would take a lot of crap films off the shelf.Read my blog here.

I've got a 17 yr old mind, inside a 25 yr old body.
Anyway, i'd travel back to the 1980's. The golden era back when everything thats big now(or was big) got its start!
Gaming, wrestling, Arcades, Computers, Disc media, Transformers, TMNT, etc, etc.
I'd love to visit all the malls and other large stores back then, to see how they look and whats there. -
Like cyflyer, I'd go back to biblical times and ask plenty of questions.
