My friend tells me that I can just burn my movies as a data cd or data dvd and this dvd player will play them. They are in avi format and I could get a couple on each cd. I was just wondering because it doesn't mention avi in the description but my friend says that avi is included under the mpeg-4 heading. Is he right, because I don't want to shell out unnecesarily. If you mean the LVW-5001, I don't see anywhere that it can play any form of AVI or MPEG-4.

I'm not sure it can play MPEGs by itself or just formatted VCDs, SVCDs, DVDs, JPEGs and MP3 and CD audio discs.

But others may be more familiar with that model.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. Search for a dvd player that will play divx (a simplification) that should sort out your problems

You (to shop assistant) " I would like a DVD player that plays divx?"
Shop assistant "Certainly sir take a look at all these models over here".... points to large section of players.
You (delighted!) "Wow I'll take that shiny slim plastic one please"
    Many liteon models play divx.
