I'll have the book thrown at me by asking, but if you have digital tv cable and a video on demand service, anyone know if there's a way of recording the stuff you play from it to dvd.
I tried one but got a 'signal is protected' error. Yes yes its protected for a reason but its only this one thing I want to record and it hasn't ever been released on DVD, this one-off special has apeared in my providers VOD service and ive been after it for years, just want to bend the rules this once.
Basically anyone know if theres a way of by-passing the protection on providers VOD services that are protected?? so I can record it onto a DVD??
(Hides under a table for fear of asking this question)

DVD region settings are a joke, I can't believe how stupid people are falling for it

This is what you need ---> http://home.cfl.rr.com/filter/

It is the only thing that I know of that will definitely work. My comments are not first hand (I don't own it myself) but everyone that has one seems to love this thing.

Is this box 'JUST' as macrovison fltler tho? As i've already got a scart lead that does that and tried it and that didn't work.

	Who's cable system & Who's DVD-R?

Don't know if it works on VOD but on TWC's preimum digital (here in the states) works fine with my equipment, abeit modded DVD-R

If it is Skynet based, it may be with your DVD-R not being moded.

	Jumbo_Holden,

You might want to take a look at this unit. It sounds like it does everything you need, and is significantly less expensive ($89) than the other unit ($144-$149 for PAL). You can also return it within 60 days (if it doesn't work for you) and get your money back. They also have a SCART Adapter (if you need one) for $4.90.

I've never used this unit, so I can't tell you if it would work for you, but people seem to be satisfied with their more simple units that just remove macrovision when transferring from vhs.

If you do decide to try this unit (or if you use a different "black box"), please post back with your results, good or bad. I'm sure many people would be interested.

I have one back home in America (Pittsburgh too) and it does/did work on any VHS or DVD I recorded to my Philips DVDR985. Of course mine is the NTSC version. My dad still uses it occasionally but I doubt he tested it on any of the new, harder to copy/rip releases.Originally Posted by FulciLives

Ok was looking at this before I told about the other one. I have purchased one (a Grex) I have had to pay more because of the extra UK power pack I had to buy for it too.Originally Posted by VegasBud

I'll report back to the board with my results. Reading this it 'seems' as if it will work I mean signal protection they put on the services will be same 'technology' they use all over the work right? I'm just guessing. Fingers crossed let's see if it will work.

Oh and I'll you'll have no clue but its a Tevion DVD recorder (Aldi supermarket electronic brand) and its a VOD service called 'Teleport TV' from UK Digital cable provider 'Telewest'DVD region settings are a joke, I can't believe how stupid people are falling for it

	Jumbo_Holden,

I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but there's no reason to resort to selling it on e-bay...return it to them and get your money back. One of the main reasons I thought the unit was worth trying is they have a 60 day money back guarantee.

I have one of these (NTSC only version)Originally Posted by FulciLives

I use it to for quick PAL to NTSC transfers. I just play a PAL DVD in my DVD player will output NTSC and record it in a Panasonic DMR-ES10.

PAL DVD - DVD player => NTSC DVD recorder

Without this device, the Recorder will not record the Movie due to signal protection.
