Hello,
I hope someone can please help me, and I hope this is in the right place![]()
Ok first off I am from the UK
I have just bought a Panasonic DMREX75 DVD Recorder as I know that VCR's are fading out, therefore I want to copy onto disks what I have on various tapes that I have, my VCR is a Sony and I have both machines connected together with a Scart lead as we were told that they were needed to be able to do this.
Problem comes in the form of not knowing how to do this via the menus that come up, I realise that no-one can help unless they have the exact same recorder.
I have attempted rather pathetically to do this and the Recorder does record to the DVD Disk, but it records whats on a TV channel and not what my video tape is playing.
If any more info is needed I don't know what it is, but will be glad to supply what else I can to help me to be able to do this, I'd hate to have to through the tapes out because it can't be done, especially as we were told it can be done!![]()
I did try searching but could'nt find anything on this so I hope someone can help me please![]()

How did you connect between the VCR and the DVR, you should check your manual to see which Line In is for composite, component or coax. I also have a Panasonic and have not problem duping VHS tapes to DVD disks.
Never too old to learn -
Hi there,
Thank you for replying
To be honest with you I have no understanding of what your telling me to look for in the Manual sorry, having said that though you have reassurred me that it can be done, and as my current Recorder is heading back to the store to be replaced with a Multi Region one, I will ask the technician to explain this and show me how to do this, he has his work cut out as he also has to do my Mum's also!
Many thanks to you for your swift reply

The problem lies in not selecting the right input to record from. Like VCR's, there is usually in button to select video in/line in for direct recording. Some units also have the various inputs listed in the channel lineup. For instance, my JVC vcr has the line in (labeled L-1) listed below my lowest channel (channel 2). So for me to choose the line in input, I just change the channel down (or up) until I reach L-1. For example, when it is set to channel 4, I press the channel down button3 times (3, 2, L-1).
You can see what you are recording if you connect the vcr into the dvd recorder and then connect the dvd recorder to the TV. In that case the only path for the VCR signal is through the dvd recorder. So when you have everything connected the selected properly, you will be able to see the vcr output on the TV. Once you can see it, then you will be able to record it.Google is your Friend
