I'm on the verge of getting an Epson RX580 printer. And, on their website, this is the link they give for the User Guide:

    http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/rx58__/rx58__ug/index.htm

Using MSIE 7 and Firefox 1.5, I get the same result - a 404 error. But, when I put an "l" character at the end of the URL string:

    http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/rx58__/rx58__ug/index.html

I'm instantly transferred to a third webpage:

    http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/rx58__/rx58__ug/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

and the User Guide magically appears. The problem? I called up Epson's customer support line and decided to be a good neighbor - telling them about the erroneous link. But, when the Epson rep clicked on the first link, the User Guide DID come up. So, she thinks I'm coming from Venus .

Anyhoo, I'd like a few other people to try that first link only and tell me if they get the User Guide or a 404 error. If enough people get a 404 error, I'll send them a little email suggesting what I suggested to the rep ... that she's on an Epson server that probably directs her to the right page while ordinary Joes like me (on the web) go nowhere - unless they "experiment" like I did to come up with the right page.

Thanks in advance, whatever you see.

P.S. If the User Guide does come up for you at the first link, what possible explanation could there be for me NOT seeing it?

I got the same result as you - a 404 from the first link while the one with the added "l" redirected me to the user guide.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Thanks. I suspect I'm right ... that the Epson rep is "hardwired" to the guide on her LAN. Consequently, she sees no problem. And, when people like me call up to mention the problem, our calls are chalked up as being silly.

Would like to see more people do the experiment, though, so I can give them a "consensus" email. Again, thanks.

    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?
