Another vote for ConvertXtoDVD . If speed is your #1 criteria, that is the one.

If your source is downloaded avi files of the usual quality then ConvertXtoDVD is all you need. The quality is already relatively low, so you don't need the best quality encoder in the world.

If you are talking about your home movies in DV format then it is a different proposition. Then you should be considering CCE Basic (fast good quality), ProCoder (a little slower, very good quality) or even HCenc (free, slower again, good quality)

Wont ImgBurn do all this for you if you build an ISO image then burn to DVD? I always have problems with SVCD files, they weren't listed.

YMMV but I and many others would certainly question the notion that Nero's encoder quality is among the best

@TonyDead : Imgburn 2 will quite happily write DV Video, it desn't even need an ISO anymore. However what it does need is a DVD Video structure already created, which takes us back to the question raised by the OP. But thanks for playing.

I think all these suggestions stink.

"real quick and still produces decent quality" does not exist. Learn some patience, otherwise it'll just look like crap. CinemaCraft Encoder Basic should be fairly speedy.

You do realize it's not the software, it's your CPU, that determines how fast video is encoded?

Good to see you back, LS

Get with the "now" generation though - done in 5 minutes or its free
    If in doubt, Google it.

wait a second, guns1inger already suggested CCE -- so does that mean your suggestion also stinks

That is absurd -- it would mean that ALL software will encode at the same rate given the same CPU

I think it's a combination of BOTH Software/encoder and CPU

It's not only absurd, it's demonstrably untrue simply by testing several different encoders on the same piece of test footage.
