I just got a dvd burner with lightscribe but roxio's easy label maker seems pretty crappy. Downloaded a trial of Acoustica but not real thrilled with that either.
Can someone recommend a decent label maker for lightscribe DVDs? I made one and think its really great. I'd even take a decent freeware or shareware program.
I see theres a Nero7 essentials on ebay or on the web that is cheap that seems to have the lightscribe functionality.
Or even recommend an all in one package. I currently used Roxio Easy DVD creator and DVD Shrink for burning so don't really need the burning software.
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried Sure Thing 4 SE? I use it for my labels. You can download it free here http://www.lightscribe.com/files/setup.zip
You are in breach of the forum rules and are being banned. Do not post false information.

No I havent. I saw that it was a "trial" version and figured it would expire after a number of days.
What are the limiatations with that?
Thanks again! -
Netguy,
Mine came bundled with my burner. Downloaded it and it works as advertised. I did not see any "trial" information in my copy of SE 4.

I got this burner with no software, it was something being thrown out at work. I'll have to check out forum trolls link, but i see that was in violation of the rules?
Appreciate any feedback! -
I have no idea at all why the banning occured, for whatever it's worth. Go to http://www.lightscribe.com and look at "What I need" or something like that for the links to software.
I have a copy of SE 4 too and that one was free. Looks like Lightscribe is getting greedy now (cough! cough!), I mean, they have changed their business model
There's no real difference between SE4 and the functionality in Nero Express to burn Lightscribe labels. Hopefully they aren't charging for this too, but a few months ago at the Lightscribe web site I downloaded and installed some newer drivers and they do allow better contrast on the final printed image at the expense of longer burn time. -
I've been using Nero for awhile and have no complaints, worked much better when I downloaded the contrast utility from lightscribe

Wish i could leave work and go home and play...cough cough..I feel a sick day coming on! LOL

The difference between Nero and Lightscribe is in the number of available templates that can be used. In Nero you onily get a few. With Lightscribe they provide a litany of templates.
With lightscribe you have to exit Nero (if that is what you are using to burn with) and then fire up Lightscribe. It just isn't bundled together. -
Unfortunately, there's a lot of variability between burners, software and media that will effect the quality/darkness of the disc image.
Some software burns darker than others (Nero tends to burn light) and some media is better than others: Verbatim is better than HP.
There's also a patch on the Lightscribe web site to make your images darker, but at the expense of a longer burn time (upto 30 mins for a good contrast image!).Regards,
Rob -
Within LS there are three burn opitions presumably with increasing darkness. I have only used the draft option and that is dark enough for my needs.

Right now I've just been using the trial version of Acoustica. Really dont want to have to buy Nero or Roxio as I have all the burning software I need. I just want the lightscribe label piece of it.
I'll take a look on lightscribes site over the weekend. Havent had time the last day or two.
Really glad to see all the posts and hope others benefit from this! -
