I've bought this DVD recorder a couple of days ago.
I would like to know if anyone have any experience with this model, please.
I had LG DR4800 for about 2 years and was pleased with it, but it started to cause troubles recently, did not initialize -RW discs, stopped recording of -R discs at random time, looked like it reached the end of it's service.
This new RH188S has 160 GB HDD, records to DVD and MPEG4 (XVID). Burns to most media: DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL.
It plays DVD, VCD, DIVX, XVID and Audio CD/MP3/WMA. It has DV IN for digital camcorder.
It records DVD in 4 modes:
XP (1 hour of video on 4.7 GB disc)
SP (2hours)
LP (4 hours)
EP (6 hours)
It records MPEG4 (XVID) in 3 modes:
SP (640 x 480)
LP (480 x 352)
EP (352 x 256)
Sound is ac3 stereo.
I have tested most features, except burning to DL media, and so far I'm pleased with all results.
Quality of DVD recording is superb (I use SP mode, only).
Quality of XVID recording in SP mode is very good; unfortunately those AVI files can not be burned to disc. It's just for preview from a HDD. Too bad, I do not understand why recorded MPEG4 can not be copied to disc. Otherwise, that would be my favorite for recording sport events.
