  1. I heard a good way of doing a passthrough tbc is using a dvd recorder such as DMR-ES10... would that be better then using a specifically DATAVIDEO TBC1000 device?... how about using my AG-1980 which has weared heads but can be used as another passthrough alternative... you tell me! and I know there are differences in different TBCs machine but what would be the best of all 3... know that I'm gonna be using my SLV-r1000 as the source as it seems it has better playback quality then my AG but without TBC it doesn't do as great... I hope to have the best of both worlds soon... my SLV + TBC = god who knows...

    Apples and oranges ....

The type of TBCs that they build into VCRs and camcorders are "line" TBCs. They only correct horizontal signals. An analog TV signal is a series of horizontal sweeps, followed by one vertical retrace to start again at the top. The built-in TBC does nothing to correct the vertical timing.

The Datavideo TBC-1000 is a full-frame TBC, storing the entire frame of video data, stripping the timing info, and replacing it with clean, precise timing. This has the added effect of removing macrovision entirely

The best route would be the full TBC. Of course, going the passthrough route is better than nothing A good way to tell if a line TBC can help you is to look at video and pick out a sharp vertical edge of something. If the edge is ragged, you can benefit from a line TBC.

I always thought this explanation of a TBC and what it does by Cap was probably the best one I read.

Don't my AG 1980 has full frame TBC as datavideo 1000?

Show me an example I don't know what that means.

The Panasonic filters have a side effect of posterizing video, so be sure to turn them off. The sync filter should be "always on" however.

The AG1980 does not have a full frame TBC that I recall, no.

I'll dig through my stuff and see if I can find a ratty signal for you, and post the image

Edit: Here's one. Note the shifting of the horizontal lines in the high-contrast vertical edge:

What sync filter where is it? hey! I think you're right AG doens't have full frame only full field horizontal or full line whatever. So then What TBC enabled VCR should I buy I still have a few hundred dollars left. Unless I resold my AG. Would that be better VCR with TBC build in or... an external TBC... your say.
