This is for a laptop. Since I've had it in early 2006, the amount of dust has slowly but surely added up.
Whats a good way to clean off slightly caked dust from an LCD screen, ya know, without damaging/denting/etc it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gee and I just use Windex.....
Some of these screens are really cruddy.
I use Windex on the LCDs of the Portable DVD players we repair too.
Never seen a problem -
A soft cloth with the highest rubbing content alcohol anything you can find over 92 or 93% works best for me. Dries quick and leaves to streaks.

This may sound disgusting, but the best way to clean just about anything from an LCD screen, is saliva with a soft handkerchief or a ball of cotton.
Saliva is slightly alkaline and containes some enzymes that cleans perfectly and instantly (without hard rubbing). -

Anyone wants to buy a second-hand monitor with shiny spanking clean screen?
BTW:
Piss contains ammonia, same as windex... might come handy for dirt tougher than dust... -

But at least you'll have something to watch on your screen once it burns out. -

Before CallForHelp was dropped from G4 TV. they had a show that said not to use Windex or anything with ammonia and recommended using cleaners designed for cleaning laptop screens. You might want to do some Google searches or search http://www.callforhelptv.com/.
