Just saw one of these at The Brick here in Canada. I asked the salesperson about it and they said it's Curtis. Can anyone confirm this? The last Curtis deck I had lasted less than 30 hours. This seems a bit better and has HDMI upconversion as well as DivX and Xvid playback. I really should check out the manual when I get the chance.

    Info on the player here:

I found it being advertised at some Canadian Store called Sears on this website:
    http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B001KKGLFW?searsBrand=core

It does not even look like the Legend Brand and does not appear to carry the Legend Logo. Someone might be pirating the Brand Name and had to dump the product in a country where the Brand is not registered, hence Canada.

I also searched: http://www.legenddigital.com/ without any luck.

I could not find the model number listed on the Curtis manuals list at http://curtisint.com/support/manuals.asp so it is more likely not theirs.

As an American citizen, I have to comment on this thread. Sorry, oldfart13, but I don't know the answer to your questions. I had to get that out of the way.

I've never heard of The Brick or Curtis. I find that interesting because I just assumed that in Canada you got exactly the same brands as we do in the USA, but I can understand that you might have retailers that we don't have here.

And to petedavo, this "Canadian Store called Sears" of which you speak happens to be an American store that pioneered the use of mail order sales (at least in terms of massive volume) and was at one time the largest retailer in the USA. I guess you don't have Sears in Oz. Ever heard of the Sears Tower in Chicago, which was at one time the tallest building in the world? The "Sears" in the name comes from this store.

Sears and Sears Canada are both major retailers, and would be unlikely to sell counterfeit merchandise, though they might sell some off-brand items once in a while. While Sears is the majorty stockholder in Sears Canada, it isn't a clone of the American operation. I did some work for both of them at various times.

OT I often visited Sears Tower, before Sears sold it in the mid-1990's and moved their headquarters out of the city to Hoffman Estates. This summer, it gets a new name, "Willis Tower". I read somewhere that the current owners are considering a silver paint job too, to save on air conditioning. I wonder if Chicago residents will accept the name change or continue to call it "the Sears Tower"?
