Fellowes CD/DVD Scratch Repair Kit at OfficeMax and elsewhere. It uses chemical-soaked cloths like moist towelettes to soften up the plastic slightly and rub out the scratches, then another cloth is used to harden it again. If you rub hard enough, even deeper scratches can be removed. Works much better than Skip Doctor and various polishes out there.

The various buffing drives work well, they use a couple little pads to "grind" off a tiny layer, you then replace those heads with polishing ones to shine it back up. If it's a severe scratch you run the grind cycle a few times before buffing. Come's in a cd walkman sized machine, various manufactors.

The best and only is called wipeout ... use it when these crap machines cant do squat with them ... fix 200+ cd/dvd with one bottle , no mixing , simple an the most effective product available ... and it dosent need any warrantee claim's when it blow's up either ... just get another bottle .

I did a test in front of several customer's and the proprietor of a video hire center .

3 inch nail used to scratch dvd (my own dvd) , almost half way through the plastic carrier ... a little bit of work using 300 grit wet and dry sand paper to remove most of the grove ... then 2 minute's polishing with a cloth using wipeout ... it worked flawlessly in the center's player .

    That's no bs .

I paid $5 for my Mad Katz machine in a Future Shop bargain bin, so I'll not be worrying about warranty of any form, and I don't have to rub anything for 2 minutes... Haven't personally tried any chemical jobs, they sound like they work well though.

Have you ever bought a new CD and then while extracting it from the jewel case accidently scratch it causing it to skip or not play at all? This Homer Simpson moment can be undone with WipeOut! a "must" for anyone who owns and plays a lot of CDs or CD-ROMs. Wipe Out! is an easy-to-use and non-toxic plastic polish CD Repair Kit priced at $14.99 retail. Enough to repair about 40 CDs, the WipeOut! kit comes with a special cloth and detailed instructions on how to rub out scratches in the polycarbonate plastic surface covering the internal aluminum disc. When this plastic layer becomes damaged, the laser beam in your CD-player will be defracted or even obstructed from "reading" the digital data encoded in microscopic pits etched into the aluminum substrate. The patented WipeOut! solution softens the polycarbonate and allows you to "resurface" it with a gentle rubbing action. Buffing out the plastic surface enables the laser to accurately read the data again making the CD usuable for more than a cocktail coaster. For more information you can contact Esprit Development Corporation at 562-997-3806 or WEB at: www.cdrepair.com

P.S. ... Lacywest says ... I [Lacywest] am not associated with any of the above persons or websites or their products ... I did a search and I am just posting the info I found.

I too am in need of a CD scratch removing product / device ... a co-worker of mine at work gave me a Video CD to repair and it is extremely scratched and toothpaste is not doing a great job ... LOL

I did use CloneCD to copy it but it has some bad spots when looking at the videos.

I used "PC Protected Game Mode" to copy the CD Video CD disk.

Those do-it-yourself disc "fixer" things are crap. They tend to do nothing more than add micro-abrasions to your discs, rendering it even more useless.

If you want to re-buff a disc, pay a professional service. They do a proper job of re-finishing the surface. They do not rape it like the DIY toys.

I use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze 17 to remove scratches and Novus Plastic Polish 1, the same stuff we use to remove scratches and buff out the lens ports of our waterproof camera housings.
