I have set the sleep time to "off". But the darn thing will turn off when I pause a movie (and leave it paused).

Even if I just hit "stop" once, the player will still turn off.

But if I take the player to a disc menu screen it will stay there forever...but naturally not saving my spot in the movie I was at.

    I have the newest firmware...

Any tricks or anything like that, that I can do to fix this?

  2. This is the type of player you don't want to leave on pause for long according to what I read.

I don't know why it turns off when you push stop. It shouldn't do that. Perhaps you could unplug it from wall for a minute & plug back in as this resets any electronic.

Actually, to be clear the player does not immediately turn off when you press stop. You mean that after you press stop and leave it for a while it turns off right?

Both the pause and stop turning off after a while are a power saving/screen burn in feature that I do not thinnk you can turn off.

That is an annoying loss of feature for me too!

I used to have DivX files paused for days with DVP642 , but now the player turns itself off, and the DivX files cannot be resumed. There was no downside to the eternal pause with 642, other than a capacitor went bad after about 20 months (google for blinking red light). However, I think that this capacitor goes bad regardless of whether the 642 is on, or on standby ...

The only saving grace is that now one can fast forward at 32X, while before it was only 8x ...

  5. I noticed in setup that you can set the timer for how long the machine stays on in energy saving mode. But it didn't seem to affect things for me.

Wyntre...why not? the 642 doesn't have any issues with this.

Anyone have the time to fix this in the firmware for me?...

I don't know if this is hard to do, so if I'm asking a arm and a leg, for get about it...

But if it would just take 10 min...could someone do it?

It does save your position on the DVD - but you have to press 'Play' while the disc is still loading or it goes to menu. Kinda stupid, but at least you can resume play.

Ask Philips Customer support for the feature. The more people who ask the more chance it will get added in the next firmware release...

    Go to: http://www.p4c.philips.com/
Enter you model number, e.g. DVP5960/12
    Click Customer Care
    Beg, beg, beg...

Right....Try to talk with Philips and get them to add a new feature. In my experience with Philips, if it isn't already an option on the player, forget about it.
