hi. my dvd player doesn't seem to like playing .srt files most of the time so i want to be able to "burn" .srt subtitles into a .avi file. is there a way i can do this with ffmpegx without having to convert the video/audio? i have tried to this in ffmpegx with converting the video on audio but i run into problems with the subtitles; for some reason, the font size stays really small, no matter what size i set it to. in the preview the subtitles will be sized correctly, but once i start converting it they go small again. any ideas?

For obvious reason, there is no way you can burn the subtitle without re-encoding the video : burning the subtitles *means* re-encoding the video with the subtitle.
The bug you mentioned is inherent to the latest versions of mencoder. You'll have to replace temporarily your mencoder binary by an older version such as the one which came with ffmpegX 0.0.9s (don't bother the warning about the wrong version when launching ffmepgX). This tip works for PPC, I don't know if you can do it on Intel Macs.

The same solution works for Intel Macs; use the "9s" mencoder. It also lets you enlarge and reposition the subtitles as well as change the font.
