It's a bit difficult to explain. The length of a video I recorded reads as having a duration of 2 mins 10 sec, but the actual length of the recording was closer to 20 mins or so. Playing the file from start to finish plays only the first 2 mins of video, but manually skipping around the movie reveals the rest of the file.

To summarize, it's as if 20 mins of video has been compressed into 2 mins 10 secs. Since skipping around the file reveals parts of the remaining 20 mins of video, it must mean that the data hasn't been lost, it's just "buried" or "compressed" for lack of a better term. The file is mpeg format.

Does anyone have any idea what the trouble is and how I could repair it? Thank you very much.

Baldrick posted this to me for the problem:
"Try play with VLC Media player or try repair it with videoredo using the quick stream fix. "

I did the second because I didn't want a new player and it worked. the first solution might work too. Search ".Mpg Files plays shorter than duration", my post, and it'll have a link to videoredo.

Thanks dmcblue. I tried the quick stream fix solution and it worked perfectly. Thanks again!
