  1. Anyone know of a program that can run thru a video and automatically make screen captures from it?

    I Use this.

    Must have Pro Version.
    Open Movie.
    File-->Export-->Movie to Image Sequence.
Set export fps to match movie's fps
to capture a "play by second" or,
adjust to a longer ( say triple the fps)
to capture in a "slideshow" type feel.
select type of file ( png or jpg)
    Target to Folder
    click ok.

If necessary stitch in Photoshop to make one huge Page of
all images, using the "Automate-->Contact Sheet II" command.

    Awesome indeed.
One question regarding Photoshop "Automate-->Contact Sheet II" command:
Is there a way that Photoshop would preserve the original size of these captures? When i tried that command i always ended up in very small thumbs on my contact sheet.

*edit* Found it myself. Playing with 'Grid size' allows a slower pace of capturing

With the Photoshop "Contact Sheet II" command Open BEFORE
running the command on the Folder of Images:

change your target sizes to match your original size here.

Thanks for the help. Didn't get in the first place that with "Document" your output file is meant. So when you have 20 640x480 pixels captures and want to place these in 2 columns, then the "Document" size must be set to 1280x4800 pixels (just an example).

I was doing a Google search and landed here. I just had to join and say thanks so much for this tip. And I didn't even have to buy a new program!

Photoshop CS5 must be run in 32 bit mode for the discontinued Contact Sheet II automation to run. It wasn't that spectacular to begin with.

Well, both ScreenGrabber and ScreenCapper have serious problems with FLV, MKV, WMV, etc. ScreenGrabber creates a maximum width image of 640, while ScreenCapper doesn't include any track or title info.

    Had forgotten that old standby.
Although, I still need an easy way to get the video frames to start with.

If you want to extract the pictures and make a contact sheet in only one very simple step, there is a tool called Movie Tiler. Try it at http://www.mrose.nl/movietiler

Thanks. It's a bit minimalist, but all the solutions are.
