My ADS Pyro A/V Link somehow hangs ALL of my capture programs as soon as I tell the software to start recording.

My PC: Pentium 4 dual core 2.x GHz with 2GB RAM running Windows XP Home SP2. Firewire is through D-Link DFB-A5 PCI card. There are no other PCI cards.

I can hook up external HD to the firewire port and transfer files fine. When I plug in Pyro to the same port and tell Windows Movie Maker to record, the application freezes until I power off Pyro. And nothing was captured. I also tried Premiere Elements 2 and DVIO. The same Pyro does not cause this problem on my laptop. The laptop drops too many frames, so I want to use my desktop PC. I think I once had it working (almost 1 year ago).

For the past 2 weeks, I've been trying out a lot of tools mentioned in this site. Could one of them be causing this problem? Has anyone had this problem before? I found out some people had firewire problems or the application hanging AFTER the capture but nobody else seems to have reported this problem.

Could you suggest something I could try to identify the problem? Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like there's a conflict between the chipsets of your Pyro and PCI Card. The easiest way to test this is to try a different firewire card.
    If in doubt, Google it.
