I'll admit, I was pretty brainless last night. The whole double-clicking a zip file but not extracting... then wondering why I got no install option on the inf file. But I think I've disgnosed what is wrong with my PC. I cannot capture with windv or virtualdub. I get nothing but a black screen. I downloaded canopus' dv codec and panasonic's both. But I still have no change. What tipped me off was virtualdub. Where it lists the resolution and framerate, etc at the bottom right, I see nothing in the block that (I think) had colorspace info in it (RBG, YUY2, etc). In the custom format menu, every choice for colorspace (RGB 16, 24, etc) says it is "unsupported." I am using a Canpus ADVC-50 and never had a problem with win2K. I "upgraded" to XP Pro and now it doesn't work. One strange thing is that Windows movie maker works fine. I don't like movie maker and on top of that avisynth cannot open the file it creates. That's a showstopper for me. I need avisynth. Anyone see this before? I also checked my verion of directX. I'm at 9.0c

From the virtualdub changelog:
* Capture: Capture from DV sources to type-2 DV AVI using the DirectShow DV driver is now supported. If in doubt, Google it.
