    Lately when I play a mpg file with Windows Media Player, it is saying Connecting for 5 mins or so before it plays the file. What is it connecting to? The file is on my PC. It used to play is straight away. How can I stop this?

    Go to View -> Option. Under Player -> Web Interface. Uncheck those options that access the web.

    Options is under Tools.

    I expect it is "connecting" to the microsoft site to either check for updates or codecs, but that is just a guess.
