  1. I have currently been asked to replace a mountain of wiers in the back of my familys 72" hdtv.
we want set up a htpc. money is not an option, so video card will be very nice to deliver a good 1080i. sound will be using optical with a nice sound card. but the one thing i am having problem fidning is a tv turner card. i cant seem to find alot of hd cards that can accecpt and deliver hd programing.

We are hopeing that we can get rid of the comcast dvr. so insted of going though the comcast box to the pc we can jsut connect the cable up to the pc and recive digital cable

my question is this, if anyone has heard of or has a tv tuner card that can just be hooked into the cable it self without needed a reciver box, that is hdtv conpliant, and if at all posible 2 tuners in it.

if anyone know's about using tv tuner cards to record shows, how is the quailty and ease of use?!

another BIG help would be anyone who currently has a pc running there home theater system that wants to point me in the right direction...

I know this is a stretch but if anyone can help me out with out jerry rigging things (wich is always fun) it would be great.

ATI just announced a new tuner that is capable of decoding digital channels. It is not out yet, and as far as I know, it is the only one capable of digital channel decoding.

BIG WARNING - Comcast typically scrambles their digital channels and PC tuners with QAM will do you no good. I am a Comcast subscriber and I have a PC with a high def TV card that has QAM and I can't get anything without a Comcast cable box.

The BEST way to record TV shows is using this method with a cable box:

It requires you to run a firewire cable from the cable box to the PC, but the results are excellent. It's my understanding that this method won't work at all with scrambled movie channels like HD HBO, but I have no way to verify that.

If you want 2 TV tuners so you can record 2 shows at once, I think that is not a good idea and I don't think you'll be very happy with the results. I would expect a lot of dropped frames.
