I have a collection of VHS cassettes from a TV series.

I have the whole series and watch them frequently.

To avoid the VHS tapes wearing out I had a friend transfer them to VCD.

I have 7 seasons on VCD and each season has 13 discs with 2 episodes on each
(91 discs in total) and they all behave in exactly the same way.

I can play them fine in my standalone DVD player (Panasonic) and view them
    on my TV.
I can also play them fine on my flatmates DVD player (XMS).

But a curious thing happens when I play them in either of my PCs

It can read the disks OK and will play the first episode fine.
    (ie: CD-ROM - MPEGAV - AVSEQ01)
but attempting to play the second episode
    (ie: CD-ROM - MPEGAV - AVSEQ02)
the CD-ROM just spins and spins and fails to play.

I have tried both my PCs
    Win 98 - Pentium 200 - 256 MB - 40x CD ROM - Windows Media Player
    7.01.00.3055
This PC gives the error "Error reading device"

    Win XP - Pentium 733 - 512 MB - HP CD Writer 9100 - Windows Media Player
    8.00.00.4477
This PC gives no error - just tries and tries and I have to 'end task' for
    WMP.

    Both give the same result.

Strange how both episodes play flawlessly on the standalone DVD players and
    yet fail in noth PCs!

Is it related to the fact that they all recorded on 90 minute CD blanks?? (They had to be to get the two episodes on one VCD)

Maybe the CD-ROM units cannot read all the way into the 90th minute and
therefore cannot read the second data file?

This is all I can think of.

    Any other inspirational thoughts anyone?

    Further info.
Someone suggested I copy the second episode (AVSEQ02) to my HD and attempt to play from there.

Well... it copied AND it played.

There goes my theory about the 90 min CD problem!

    Now I am really stumped!

    Anyone?
