    Hi all,

I bought this DVD recorder last night to record snippets off of television for a blog I'm working on, and want to also capture Xbox action at my son's request. So far, capturing video works ok. I take what I record and put it in my computer, then using a program to convert the dvd to avi, voila, there's my post. I'm not too happy about the resolution however, I was hoping for a bit crisper video. I have it on HD on the recording options, so perhaps it's the way it's being coded? At least it's on there.

However, I'm stuck on the Xbox part. Using the search function here, I found one person that said to meerly use the av cables from the Xbox and put them in the DVD recorder, and then route the DVD recorders cables into the tv and there you go. Not working. The DVD recorder will only find the television signal, not the Xbox. I've tried changing the source as well with the remote for this unit and it cannot find it. It will only record on Video 1, or Video 2 on my tv, and whichever one the Xbox is coming out of, it will take the other. Any way at all I can do this?

    Thank you,

    Mike

I'm confused by how you have it connected. You should have the video output of the xbox connectd to the video in of the recorder. Then the video ouput of the recorder connected to the video in of the TV.

I had put the cables from the Xbox into the A/V in on the back on the DVDR, and routed the cables from the DVDR to the IN on the back of the tv and tried recording. I think I got the TV signal anyway. Didn't seem to do the trick. I could see the game, but it wasn't going to the DVDR.

If you could see the game on the TV, then it had to be going to the DVDR. I would expect the DVDR works like a VCR. To record a video input, you most likely have to choose "Line" , "Video In", or something similar. Basic connectivity like this is usually covered in the user manual.

I'm currently chasing down something similar.

The Memorex Dual Format DVD Recorder may have what I consider to be a serious design flaw... too low a threshhold on what it considers to be 'Copyrighted' materials.

It will not copy colorbars or self designed video title screens which are video industry standards for anyone that has ever edited a video tape. I am currently trying to get someone with the Memorex support organization to simply understand the problem.

So, if you bring in your own video, add a title screen at the beginning in an editor, either with the built-in editor functionality or one that you've created, print the video back out to tape and then attempt to copy that editied tape to the Memorex MVDR2102, it will refuse to start the copy until it gets past the title area.

I suspect the same circuitry that is causing the behaviour that I see is also doing you in.

I'll let you know the final outcome.
