  1. Dear Friends,
    I m looking for a software tool which can convert a normal .mpg or .dat file (vcd cd format file ) to a SVCD or DVD format complaint file...which I intend to burn with Ulead DVD Movie factory as a SVCD or a DVD....
    .....
    .....I have burned a VCD but now i want to try out Burning a SVCD or a DVD using Ulead DVD Movie Factory,

    I have tried VCD Imager and VCD Gear ...but they didnt help me....

    any Ideas ????

  2. Why would you want to do that? The quality isn't going to improve.

    If you want to transfer it to DVD for the benefit of extended playback time, refer to Baldrick's guide for doing this (you just have to resample the audio to 48Khz and then use a DVD authoring tool).

    GIGO: garbage in, garbage out

    I would discourage you from going to SVCD altogether. The quality will actually DECREASE as you will have to re-encode the VCD standard MPEG-1 to SVCD standard MPEG-2 (i.e., imagine re-JPEG'ing a JPEG image, the quality will only decrease).

    If you want to put your video onto DVD, you can actually author VCD standard MPEG-1 onto DVD (and have it be compliant) as long as your audio is upsampled to 48 kHz. At least this way the video quality will not suffer from the original.
