I know the words Microsoft and ISO don't crop up too often in the same sentence but anyway my brother in law has this Mustek PVR-H140 device which comes with some Conversion software called ArcSoft MediaConverter, he wants to convert a whole batch of his old iPod mp4 videos to a format which he can play on his device, MediaConverter doesn't support mp4 so overlooking all the sh*tware (sorry kiddies) I wondered if mencoder or ffmpeg could do the job, here is the info and experience I have had, if you can help I'd eally appreciate it thanks!:

Videos produced by the device/bundled software are the following:

    Code:
    Container: ASF
    -------------------
    FORCC : CODEC
    MP4S : Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 version 1
    M4S2 : Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 version 1.1
I think ffmpeg will do it, but I need to use the MS MPEG-4 codec, does anyone know how I can use it in ffmpeg since it's not included?

FYI: I tried mencoder using lavc with mpeg4 and mspeg4 etc with lavf to mux into an ASF, but even when spcifying the FOURCC with -ffourcc M4S2 the fourcc ALWAYS set to FMP4 (this is windows mencoder) so I can't test it.

I also tried ffmpeg and I can set the FOURCC and contain in ASF ok, but I cannot use it on the device, it doesnt play, i think it needs to be one of those specific codecs, so if anyone knows, please post, it will save my bro alot of time.

Oh and also, mencoder seems to detect and support the AAC audiostrem ok, but i read that i may need to compile FAAD libraries or something for FFMPEG to decode AAC, is this true?

if you haven't done it, install windows media center 10. it should install the mpg4 codec.

Haha are you kidding? Thats a slightly bloated soloution, I was just looking to use the microsoft codecs with ffmpeg, if it's possible. I'm thinking of using microsoft windows media encoder scripting if I can get it to read the aac and mp4 video. - but the above question still stands...

    thanks.

use avisynth for mp4 file using directshowsource and load script into Nic's WMEnc.
feed new WMV video into ffmpeg vcodec 'copy' and specify audio codec to use. Should work.

    Hope this helps
