What's the brand and model of your 'hd digital box' and what service is it using? Someone here may be using a similar setup.

All you need to do is connect the video output (s-video or coax)of the cable box into the video input of the recorder.

The only problem you may have, is how your cable box is currently connected to your TV. I assume that since you have a "HD digital box", that you are using HDMI or component from the cable box to your TV. Many units disable the other video outputs when using HDMI. If that is the case, you would have to disable the HDMI output whenever you wanted to use the recorder. The only way to know for sure is to try it.

The recorded will only record the channel selected on the cable box, but you can still watch it while it is recording.

can i hook up the cable directly into the recorder, then hook up from the recorder to the cable box then from the box to the tv?

not sure if my explanation was clear but will that work?
