  1. My 510 came with a dvd writer 106. It is burning the 8x disks but I am not able to view them once I open & close the tray of the burner. The burner does not even recognize the 16x disks. SO I went and bought a new pioneer dvd burner DVR 111D. I have the service disk GGV1179 and the palm remote. Has anyone been able to successfully upgrade the DVD burner using these?

    A few questions:

    a) there is 2 wire cable connecting the current dvd burner to the 510H-s. That slot is missing in DVR 111D. Anyone know what that is for? Do I still need it?
    b) Do I need a seperate firmware cd / dvd for my pioneer machine to recognize the new dvr 111D?
    c) What would be the process for the 510H-S to recognize my DVR-111D?

I had succesfully upgraded my hard disk in 510 from 80 to 320GB. the post is here

I am hoping that I will be able to replace the burner in a similar fashion.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Several forum members have been able to replace/repair their pioneer (510hs and 520hs) burners. I succeeded with my pioneer 530hs. My guess is that the procedure is easier with the 510hs and 520hs. [btw, I'm almost certain one or two members attempted the replacement with using the pioneer 111D writer - check those threads on this forum.] Here is the link to the procedure I used with my 530hs:

The DVD drive was opening and closing, not allowing DVD vs. HDD selection, making sounds, not powering off, etc. I tried deleting and re-inputing CPRM data to no avail. The problem was the jumper setting (I believe correct setting is "master") - once I placed the jumper in correct position and deleted and re-entered CPRM ID#, the drive worked and has continued to work as new.

  5. I have tried all jumper settings. I am trying to replace my 106X with 108 or 111D. Every time I connect it to the DVR it starts making noises (tray opening and closing). Both work in my computer though.

I think it has to do with the firmware issue. I think the 510 is not recognizing the newer burners.

Does anyone know where I can get the Pioneer DVR-510H service manual and the service dvd? I need to replace my hard drive in the unit and cannot find either items anywhere. I've searched the website links on this site and unfortunately cannot get the items. I have the service remote, actually created one myself, just need the manual and the dvd, thanks.

    Thank you,
    Keith
