  1. Ok but say I have an entire anime show which I *find* on the net, usually its 26 episodes in divx or xvid. Now if I want to put it onto media and store it so I can watch it I usually converted every episode to MPEG2 and put into a DVD.

What im getting at is that the XDIVX source material for 24 mins is usually 200MB, that same file in MPEG-2 with a 1:1 will be 800MB+. So if I burn all to a DVD in XDIVX I can put all 26 episodes on a single dvd, and in the future when BD is a viable option convert then. But converting all to mpeg-2 and spanning multiple discs seems like a redundant task.

    Right?

If your originals are Divx/Xvid and you want to view off the PC or just store...
I can see no sense in converting.

  4. Long ago I quite burning DVD's since I now convert everything to MP4 and use three D-Link 320's throughout the house to display video, music, and photo's. My many blank DVD's are gathering dust. I'm not into portability, but if I were I wouldn't go with optical.

I look forward to HD or Blu-ray, but would still like to bypass optical media in favour of high definition video using the media center concept.

For the masses, I'm sure DVD playback will be around for a while.

I agree, but I am not one of those people. I own a 50" DLP High Def TV along with a regular 52" Toshiba Television. I have successfully created Divx Video with menus and chapters and they work great on my computer. Yet the menus don't work well when trying to view them using my Divx standalone DVD player.

I have converted them back to DVD using my Toshiba DVD recorder with some help from a video enhancer. The video came out looking great on all TV's with hardly any noticeable artifacts. I've been throuugh the VCD, SVCD and DVD periods and can reasonably tell if the video is up to par.

i would just like to ask what "video enhancer" you use to make the videos appear more crisp.

Oh, and i'm also looking for an app that i can use to burn around 3 to 6 divx/xvid files, convert them to DVD with menus, and play them on my Philips DVD player.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

I use my laptop which has an ATI video card that produces very good looking video. I connect the s-video out from the laptop to the Sima Color Corrector or the AVT-8710, both units work well in this case.

I record the video to my Toshiba DVD Recorder's hard drive. I must admit that I did find that using the gamma controls on the laptop's video control panel helps a lot. The noise compression settings on the Toshiba works extremely well to get rid of unwanted video noise.

If I want to make fancy menus in the dvd format I either use Ulead's DVD Workshop or the new version of DVD MovieFactory. Both softwares do a very good job when it comes to dvd menus.

I never convert divxes to DVDs, and I don't have any Toshiba standalone recorder for ages
You should fix whom youre quoting there...

note: i never said you did. i was merely asking what type of video enhancer you use.

The next request/question was for everyone else.
