Ok - I have tried ther newest and the oldest available CODEC of XVID.
Both shutdown the program using it whwen you select a file.
Both will often times freeze Windows Explorer.
Windows 'report This Porblem' actualy worked for once and reported that removing the XVID Codec will resolve the problem with Single Core CPUs - It does!!
But - I (think) I need XVID.
Any fixes for it out there? (Other than buying a dule+core cpu!)
Any alternative?
Thnaks

I'm guessing you have a codec conflict. The Xvid codec doesn't care how many cores you have. It may run faster when encoding with a dual core machine, though.
Usually when explorer freezes up when opening a Xvid file, it means the file is corrupted or you have one too many codecs interfering with each other. If this is a playback issue, try installing VLC media player. It uses it own codecs, so the installed system codecs aren't used. If it works for playback, then you likely do have a codec problem.
And welcome to our forums.
