I have a newly build PC I use to play vid files located on the HDD's on a remote tv. PC has XP Home, but I use an MS Media Center remote to pause, rewind, search for files, etc., using Nero Home. The program works fairly well, but has a few bugs (for example, some recent .avi's would rwd & ff fine in other players such as VLC Media Player, but when I attempted to do this with Nero Home, the video portion responded fine but the audio would revert to the beginning). So I'm wondering if there are any other video playback programs which can be controlled by the MS Media Center remote. I understand this remote was made to be used with Windows XP Media Center Edition, and also will work with Vista, but I don't want to buy a new OS. I also have XP Pro on the machine, but I have not used it so far for video on the TV.

    TIA

I would try Media Portal or GB-PVR. THe changelog mentions MCE remote support.

But I would guess that most htpc players supports mce remote controls, https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=34#34
