I have a Sony Vaio with a 15.4" widescreen display. I'm wondering what program I need, or what I need to do, in order to get it to display my widescreen(anamorphic widescreen mostly) dvds correctly without having the black bars on the screen like would a normal 4:3 screen. Thanks.

ETA, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question!

Just use any software dvd player, all supports correct aspect ratio on such screens. But you will have black bars on all ~2.35:1 movies, if you don't want black bars on those you must zoom use for example Zoom Player, VLC, Media Player Classic and use the zooom functions.

What display dimesnions are you using for the screen? If the pixel dimensions are not equvalent to 16:9 you'll get bars.

What software are using? Make sure it's set right.. some will allow you to force it full screen regardless of what the intended aspect is.

Also be aware that some DVD's use the original aspect of the cinematic movie, in that case the black bars are part of the video.

Edit: Baldrick beat me to it.... :P
