I've liked the app ever since it was the free "DivxtoDVD". Recently installed the eval of the commercial product and began noticing video playback stuttering on my PC - even with files which played back fine before...

Using DriversView by Nirsoft, I discovered the Pattin-Couffin driver had been installed. Uninstalled ConvertXtoDVD and it uninstalled Pattin-Couffin. Voila, my PC was back to playing media files without stutter.

I'm sure VSO is working on a fix for this (they're very smart guys), but just in case you're experiencing similar behavior on your system....

I haven't noticed any problem with playback with VLC or Zoom. I have ConvertXToDVD 2.1.8.193 and have used earlier versions for some time that had the Pattin-Couffin engine.

EDIT: Looking around, that is apparently the burning program for ConvertX. Or a replacement for the ASPI layer, not sure which, but a bunch of VSO programs seem to use it.

Hmmm. Maybe it's the specific combination of everything on my system. Pcouffin might have been the piece that made it unstable. http://www.hasbro.com/jenga/

Yeah it also comes with BlindWrite, etc. and has done for years. Never had any issues with it here (Don't have ConvertX installed though).

I am so sorry. It was one of my drive channels - set to PIO for some reason.

Not a problem. I tore half a computer apart once because of a keyboard problem it suddenly developed. The actual problem was that the keyboard was plugged into the mouse socket.

I always thought Windows should have a pop up when a drive channel reverts to PIO. If you have a lot of problems when reading a disc with an optical drive, after six failed attempts, Windows reverts the drive channel to PI0 mode.

It's a Windows 'feature' to let the drive continue to work. That causes a lot of mysterious slowdowns and read and write problems. I don't know if they fixed that in Vista, but we can always hope.
