I have been recording onto DVD+R discs for about a year on my LiteON LVW-1101. I am now
trying to use DVD-R discs and I get an "Invalid Disc" message. The owners manual says that both DVD+R and DVD-R are okay. Do I need to change something in the settings? I confess to being a newbie. Would much appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Have you tried more than one brand of DVD-R?

Have you been using a DVD lens cleaner? Most usually say they should be used after every ten hours of recording/playing.

Sometimes as simple a thing as that makes a big difference.

    *EDIT:
LiteOn's website says your machine works on DVD+Rs, not "+" and "-".

  3. I'm not sure 100% but I think Liteon dvd recorders are 100% R/RW+.

Some are dual format and take both "+" and "-".

Apparently this one isn't one of those.

Thanks for the responses. The only reason I switched is because I found some DVD-R discs on sale. The link to the LiteOn website was most helpful. It seems to indicate that my machine does not support the DVD-R format. I was not able to find this page on their website and my owners manual is for the 1101-1105 series (the 1105 does support DVD-R). I think this is the answer to my question. Many thanks for your helpful input. This is a website I will bookmark and come back to in the future!

    Regards,
    John
